100 Things – The Bucket List
I have always had a mental list of things I wanted to do in my lifetime and I thought it would be good to put them all here as a visual reminder. Some of the things have already been crossed out because the list has been around much longer this blog has. Some things I have done before but want to do again.
The order of things is unimportant, the list is flexible and subject to change as I change.
To Do:
- See a play in the West End of London.
- Adopt an animal from a shelter. Parsley and Basil, Derby Cats Protection.
- Celebrate Christmas in another country. Australia, 1998.
- Prepare and deliver a speech that has nothing to do with my job.
- Leave a £50 tip on an inexpensive meal.
- Visit Qom and Isfahan, Afghanistan
- Ride in a helicopter.
- Spend a holiday working in a shelter or soup kitchen.
- Learn CPR.
- Dive the Silfra Crack.
- Take and complete a counselling course.
- Learn to sing (better).
- Stay in a really posh hotel.
- Teach someone something life-changing.
- Learn to play the fiddle.
- Learn to play the guitar.
- Arrange a funeral.
Rebuild my backyard fence.- Find Siona.
- Win the Lottery and pay off my mum’s mortgage.
- Learn Nålbinding.
- Jump out of a plane. With a parachute.
- Have a proper real lightsaber. Cool.
- Do a PhD.
- Serve on a jury.
- Learn to cook better.
- Research my family tree. Have started!!
- Go on a long meditation retreat.
- Own a room with a view.
- Cruise to Antartica.
- Take up Latin and Classical Studies again.
- Purchase a painting from a local artist. Does my mum count?!
- Learn to sail.
- Meet Jake.
- Be a board member of a professional or charitable organization. Was on Exec. of SDVSMHF.
- Ride a steam train.
- Take a self-defence class.
- Build a snowman again.
- Be the boss.
- See the Potala Palace.
- Eat my five fruit and veg a day. I’m now mostly doing this
- Go back to university and study marine biology.
- Have something in an Art Exhibition.
- Make a will.
- Pay off my debts.
- Plant a tree. I have planted thousands.
- Have a woodburning stove.
- Memorize a poem.
- Watch Cat Balou again.
- Dive with sharks. Taka II, 1998
- Go see the Temple of Baal at Baalbek.
- Take a community class in something I know nothing about.
- Spend a weekend with my sister. Will still do this again when I can afford the airfare.
- Take that trekking holiday in Wales with Moira (like we often spoke about).
- Learn a foreign language.
- Write a poem.
- Train a Harris Hawk.
- Find a species new to science.
- Cultivate patience.
- Take a cooking class.
- Attend an outdoor concert. Does Monsters of Rock count? I’m sure Glastonbury does.
- Have my own greenhouse.
- Exercise regularly and enjoy it. Sadly, am really enjoying my daily gym fix.
- Keep a blog for at least three years. I think I may have achieved this.
- Go to a big footie match. Rotherham vs Shrewsbury Town, Autowindshields Cup Final, Wembley Stadium 1996
- Own a home on a lake. Or water of some kind.
- Read War and Peace.
- Go on a road trip by myself with no destination or goals in mind.
- Learn Arabic.
- Own a horse.
- Follow in the footsteps of Ibn Battutah.
- Stop smoking. Jan 2008 (with the odd lapse)
- Visit Pompeii again.
- Try windsurfing.
- Dance nekkid in the rain (somewhere warm).
Grow my own veg.- Shake the hand of someone famous for changing the world for the better.
- Have a hobby I can earn a bit of money from.
- Guest post on someone else’s blog.
- Dive Chuuk.
- Go to Go Ape and swing thru’ the trees.
- Spend New Year in a country cottage with good food and good friends.
- Stay in an igloo.
- Learn to ski.
- Climb a mountain.
- Spend less time on t’Internet.
- Be happy with who/where I am.
- Build my own webpage and understand what I’m doing.
