100 Things – The Bucket List

I have always had a mental list of things I wanted to do in my lifetime and I thought it would be good to put them all here as a visual reminder. Some of the things have already been crossed out because the list has been around much longer this blog has. Some things I have done before but want to do again.

The order of things is unimportant, the list is flexible and subject to change as I change.

To Do:

  1. See a play in the West End of London.
  2. Adopt an animal from a shelter. Parsley and Basil, Derby Cats Protection.
  3. Celebrate Christmas in another country. Australia, 1998.
  4. Prepare and deliver a speech that has nothing to do with my job.
  5. Leave a £50 tip on an inexpensive meal.
  6. Visit Qom and Isfahan, Afghanistan
  7. Ride in a helicopter.
  8. Spend a holiday working in a shelter or soup kitchen.
  9. Learn CPR.
  10. Dive the Silfra Crack.
  11. Take and complete a counselling course.
  12. Learn to sing (better).
  13. Stay in a really posh hotel.
  14. Teach someone something life-changing.
  15. Learn to play the fiddle.
  16. Learn to play the guitar.
  17. Arrange a funeral.
  18. Rebuild my backyard fence.
  19. Find Siona.
  20. Win the Lottery and pay off my mum’s mortgage.
  21. Learn Nålbinding.
  22. Jump out of a plane.  With a parachute.
  23. Have a proper real lightsaber.  Cool.
  24. Do a PhD.
  25. Serve on a jury.
  26. Learn to cook better.
  27. Research my family tree. Have started!!
  28. Go on a long meditation retreat.
  29. Own a room with a view.
  30. Cruise to Antartica.
  31. Take up Latin and Classical Studies again.
  32. Purchase a painting from a local artist. Does my mum count?!
  33. Learn to sail.
  34. Meet Jake.
  35. Be a board member of a professional or charitable organization. Was on Exec. of SDVSMHF.
  36. Ride a steam train.
  37. Take a self-defence class.
  38. Build a snowman again.
  39. Be the boss.
  40. See the Potala Palace.
  41. Eat my five fruit and veg a day. I’m now mostly doing this :)
  42. Go back to university and study marine biology.
  43. Have something in an Art Exhibition.
  44. Make a will.
  45. Pay off my debts.
  46. Plant a tree. I have planted thousands.
  47. Have a woodburning stove.
  48. Memorize a poem.
  49. Watch Cat Balou again.
  50. Dive with sharks. Taka II, 1998
  51. Go see the Temple of Baal at Baalbek.
  52. Take a community class in something I know nothing about.
  53. Spend a weekend with my sister. Will still do this again when I can afford the airfare.
  54. Take that trekking holiday in Wales with Moira (like we often spoke about).
  55. Learn a foreign language.
  56. Write a poem.
  57. Train a Harris Hawk.
  58. Find a species new to science.
  59. Cultivate patience.
  60. Take a cooking class.
  61. Attend an outdoor concert. Does Monsters of Rock count? I’m sure Glastonbury does.
  62. Have my own greenhouse.
  63. Exercise regularly and enjoy it. Sadly, am really enjoying my daily gym fix.
  64. Keep a blog for at least three years. I think I may have achieved this.
  65. Go to a big footie match. Rotherham vs Shrewsbury Town, Autowindshields Cup Final, Wembley Stadium 1996
  66. Own a home on a lake. Or water of some kind.
  67. Read War and Peace.
  68. Go on a road trip by myself with no destination or goals in mind.
  69. Learn Arabic.
  70. Own a horse.
  71. Follow in the footsteps of Ibn Battutah.
  72. Stop smoking. Jan 2008 (with the odd lapse)
  73. Visit Pompeii again.
  74. Try windsurfing.
  75. Dance nekkid in the rain (somewhere warm).
  76. Grow my own veg.
  77. Shake the hand of someone famous for changing the world for the better.
  78. Have a hobby I can earn a bit of money from.
  79. Guest post on someone else’s blog.
  80. Dive Chuuk.
  81. Go to Go Ape and swing thru’ the trees.
  82. Spend New Year in a country cottage with good food and good friends.
  83. Stay in an igloo.
  84. Learn to ski.
  85. Climb a mountain.
  86. Spend less time on t’Internet.
  87. Be happy with who/where I am.
  88. Build my own webpage and understand what I’m doing.
  89. Read more.
  90. Go sea-kayaking.
  91. Catch a fish.
  92. Pluck a pheasant.
  93. Be in a music video. I’m in an Iron Maiden vid, done in about 1992/3.
  94. Forgive.
  95. Spend more time in New Zealand.
